Journal Entry 042314-A: Battleship Marine!

Friends,

First let me invite you to visit my little Marine Supply Store located here in Fairhope, Alabama on Highway 181 South of Bay Shores Market and North of Chasing Fresh!

The people of Baldwin County as well as "visitor's" to the Area have made it possible to keep the dream alive for me to have a "Discount" boating supply center right here in Fairhope, Alabama!

Thank you to all of you!

This "little store" was a carport at one-time and my mother and fathers office for years until three years ago come January 2015!

Thank you again my customers and friends for supporting my efforts to have this little store here for you going into it's 3rd boating Season and I look forward to serving your boating supply needs!

Today's short-story will be short but I hope you enjoy it.

Have you ever been to Gravine Island on a Sunday Afternoon?

If not you should ride up there one Sunday Afternoon.

It normally is packed with boats on a pretty day.

Upwards of a 100 hundred on an Island Beach on a freshwater river in the Mobile River Delta.

Knee boarding, Water tubing, Water-skiing all types of Boats and Personal Watercraft all around you.

I believe Liberty Ships at one-time were mothballed on the location.

I rode up there the first time as such a young child that all I vaguely remember is seeing ships moored up there but the ships are no longer moored there on that location.

What is there is a long shallow sand flat leading up from a wide deep water playground with deep channels from rivers and cuts in all directions up to a white sand beach with a high white sand bluff the kids and adults will have a blast sliding down into the water too near the many boats pulled up on the beach.

Yall I have had so much fun up there bar-b-queuing, listening to music and having a few drinks with my friends, children and/or a girl that to pick out one story today would be fruitless.

Its a wonderful experience going out for a ride on the boat, watercraft tube or knee board then coming back to the beach for a while to rest, swim, eat, drink and have conversation sometimes with people you haven't seen in years that rode over to the Island from all points on the compass then going back out and doing it again!

Please go up there with Peace and Love in your heart and mind and you'll have the time of your life!

I hope you enjoyed reading my post today!

Journal Entry 042114-A: Battleship Marine!

Friends,

First if you don't mind I would like to invite you to "visit" my little Marine Supply Store in Fairhope, Alabama!

I'm kinda proud of this little store that the people of Baldwin County have helped me begin from scratch in January of 2012!

I am entering my 3rd Boating Season here at this location on Highway 181 in Fairhope, Alabama and I appreciate your help in helping keep a dream alive very much my friends!

Please keep Battleship marine in mind but onto the story!
Lets see I haven't had much time to think of a new boating experience I can share with you today so let me give it a little thought.

I guess I'm going to go back in time today back to when I was a just a kid.

One of the first fishing trips I remember after my parents quit shrimping every Sunday which was a lot of fun because we would launch the boat at dog river and bring it around to the house on hollingers island and tie it up overnight.

Then we would go Shrimping or fishing the next morning. Something like that my friends.

I wanted to mention something my parents have a picture of that all of us dog lovers understand.

We would leave the house with our doberman pinscher following us out to the end of the driveway and ill be damned if the dog wouldn't be sitting on the end of the pier when we got within range to be able to see him.

We had two when I was a child. Tiny and Happy I was so young I cant remember if it was one or both of them that did this incredible thing but my mother has a picture of one them sitting there on the end of the pier or wharf as we called it back in those days!

Just sitting there waiting on us!

We used to rush in from shrimping in time for the "Bear Bryant" show every Sunday that we went fishing or shrimping!

We had to see the "Bear" talk about Mama while drinking a Coke and having some Golden Flake chips while talking with if my memory serves me correctly John Forney about the Alabama Football game that was played the day before on Saturday!

I didn't pay that much attention until I was 10 years-old and not as much as I wished now that I am much older after that age but who in hell couldn't the "Bear" get their attention?

Maybe an Auburn fan but I love yall too!

I think this is gonna be today's story!

Roll Tide Roll yall!

This football season should be fantastic and if Bama plays defense, runs the ball, controls both lines of scrimmage plays special teams and doesn't make too many dumb penalties and just for the hell of it hits one deep every once in a while!

Maybe then we can make a deep run into that first year of them playoffs and have some fun winning the 14th National Championship!

Until then Coach Saban and his staff will be working their asses off getting the team ready so we can hopefully give West Virginia a run for their money over in Atlanta in August but in the meantime lets pass the time waiting on the Season in our boats down here on the Gulf Coast making memories that will last a lifetime hopefully many of them we cant really write about for Christ Sakes!

Who knows maybe we can if no one minds!

I hope you enjoyed the short-story today because unlike the story a couple of days ago this story was a true story!

I hope you have found a business, product, service or something you would like to have yourself on the advertising page. If your looking for something please let me place a wanted advertisement on that site for you.

Journal Entry 041914-A: Battleship Marine!

Friends,

First let me invite you to "visit" my little Marine Supply Store in Fairhope, Alabama!

I have worked hard over the last two years now entering my third boating season since Opening in January 2012 to offer you Marine Supplies at a "Discount" Price!

I couldn't have done it without you my customers and friends!

I am very appreciative of your business and support!

I am looking forward to being here in this location for this 3rd season and hopefully many more!

Today's short-story about my boating experience's will be about another trip down to the Ammunition Dump.

I have already told you the story of my parents and I fishing the ammo dump back in the early 70's well in a previous post.

This story will be a little different in nature.

Deer River as it is called by those that don't remember after World War II that if I am correct the area was dredged the sand pumped on the beach at the end of Bay Road South of Dog River on Hollingers Island to form what is now a high sand hill with a Pine-Grove that has grown on top of the hill was then still affectionately known to the locals as the Ammo Dump and Ammo Dump Channel.

Gaillards Island I'm not even sure had been pumped up at the time this story begins but had by the time Valerie and I went on our little night time fishing trip.

As a child or teenager myself a friend Aimee and another friend Michelle once sat under those tall pines in a cool breeze on a hot summer day and looked across the beautiful Mobile Bay below us on top of what seemed like a mountain back then through my eye's!

You can see the pine grove from Fairhope, Alabama if you look just South of Dog River Bridge!

There was no Navy Base in those days and to the west was an area we called the dunes if my memory serves me correctly where others went dune buggy riding.

My friends and I jumped our dirt-bikes down there- well I tried to jump the sand hills but I had a an old ram style handle bar type 10 Speed then a 3 speed but I still tried to jump it a little bit but neither bikes were built for that but my friends bikes were.

Let's finish talking about the Ammo dump.

The hole pumped out was filled with old ammunition as the story goes my friends left-over from World War II!

One night my ex-wife Valerie and I launched the glass-tron at Dog River with the 40 horsepower Evinrude that I had rebuilt in Silver hill and headed down for a night fishing trip.

It was a beautiful night if my memory serves me correct a calm Mobile Bay and a full-moon.

We played around out in the bay with the boat and anchored for a little while prior to heading on down to the ammo dump channel to do a little fishing.

While anchored we listened to some music talked and had supper-most likely some fried chicken.

The Navy Base had been built by this time in the late-90's but had been closed for almost ten years.

The turning basin for the Navy Ships was deep and I wanted to try our luck in that deep water since it had been years since I had fished the area of the Western Shore where I had grown up playing in the bay from my parents home on Hollinger's Island!

I was selling homes for Charlie Dukes when we made this trip over to dog river from either Silver hill or our home in Daphne, Alabama.

That's all really beside the point what this story is about is a beautiful moon-lit night spending some time boat riding, playing and fishing with a person from a previous life on Mobile Bay.

We pulled up to a beacon after using my Hummingbird to find the deep water and tied up letting the boat drift out with the wind and tide to a point 20-30' away from the Beacon or Channel Marker.

We had a tide to beat before it quit moving so we proceeded to try our luck both with dead shrimp and artificial grubs.

Chartreuse is the one I believe that worked that night with the red head. It has been years but I also had plenty of White Grubs with the red-head on board and to be honest I think that is the one that caught the Trout.

We had luck with both the dead shrimp and the grubs!

Fine White Trout maybe a Speck or two but what was a first was what Valerie caught!!!

She hooked into a fish not far from the piling of the channel marker or beacon that felt a little different or at least it looked a little different in the way the rod bent as she was yelling "I have something big on here Cliff"!!

I wasn't sure what she had. It could have been a red fish or a sheep-head!!!

Yall she brought the fish to the boat that night in the late 90's and it was a dang fine Mango Snapper!

I had caught Snapper in the Gulf of Mexico on my friend Jay Barnetts 32' Sea-Ray in the early 90's but for Valerie to catch a big Mango Snapper that far North in Mobile Bay was an exciting thing to happen especially for her and for me to watch because she loves to fish!!

Valerie loves to fish and I hope she has had the opportunity to do a lot of fishing since our divorce.

The fish began to slow their bite as the tide came to a standstill and only an occasional catfish would hit a dead shrimp after the tide stopped moving so we headed on back toward Dog River on that beautiful moon-lit night in late summer of the late 1990's!

It was probably close to midnight before we got the boat back on the trailer and got back across Battleship Parkway to our home which by this point in writing the story I have determined to have been in Daphne, Alabama.

The trip back to Baldwin County and to our home and children was a relaxing experience because the boat, engine and trailer performed beautifully that night and my then wife Valerie and I had some fish in the cooler and an experience of a lifetime to share with our family, friends and co-workers on Monday Morning!

Most of the story anyway!

Well yall! We were on a boat on a Moon-lit night so I'll leave it at that. Hopefully that's tame enough for my readers for goodness sakes!

Jay or Nancy if you read this which I hope you do- I hope I got the length of the Sea-Ray right cause what a fine boat yall had if you don't mind me saying so my friends!

I hope you enjoyed the short-story today because unlike the story a couple of days ago this story was a true story!

Journal Entry 041714-A: Battleship Marine!

Friends,

First let me invite you to "visit" Battleship Marine here in Fairhope, Alabama for all your "Discount" Marine Supply needs!

Thank you to my "Customers" and "Friends" for keeping this dream alive!!

I appreciate yall very much!

Today's story is about that Marathon Cuddy Cabin I used to own for a short period of time I mentioned in yesterdays post.

It was a fine boat with a fine little engine but it had a pin-hole leak in the exhaust system that I cant really explain because it has been 12 years maybe 13 since I owned the boat.

I was building homes at the time and that damn leak was a pain in the butt to get too!

I had several people tell me it couldn't be fixed and I bought another boat.

The "Keep Her Wet" a fine 21' Bay liner "Walk-A-Round" Cuddy with twin 120 Force Engines from a man in Theodore, Alabama that I assume still owns a body shop out there in Theodore, Alabama.

The Marathon may have been 22' but the "Full Cuddy Cabin" was very difficult to get through the hatch and on to the front deck to anchor the boat.

She handled fine! Extremely well but that dang leak scared me to death one day right off the Orange Beach Water Tower.

I took the boat out with the little leak.

The leak was worse with the engine running so I just had a Rule 2000 GPH bilge pump in the bilge.

I had a good hot battery so I wasn't worried.

I wasn't planning on taking her far off the beach or that far from the pass anyway.

The damn engine quit though and we put the anchor out and I started trying to figure out why she quit!

The boat continued to leak and hours passed.

I had Valerie put Allison and Alex in a life jacket and I told her too put one on too as the hull settled into the water stern first!

I didn't put on a life jacket cause I figured I needed to be able to swim free of her as she went down.

Water was beginning to slosh over on to the floor as the battery ran low and hope was fading for a rescue.

Things seemed pretty grim as in the show grim. I mean Grim Yall!

My sister had warned a lady years ago not far from that location of a Hammerhead that patrolling the beach as she swam and Lord I didn't want the wife and kids to have to swim past that shark or her family's!

Just as all hope was lost off in the distance I saw a reddish-orange boat approaching so I shot off the only flare that would work cause the damn things got wet in the cabin!!1

It was the Orange Beach, Alabama rescue boat for Christ Sakes!

They heaved a big pump over into the cockpit and they yelled Hell Yeah Roll Tide Roll!

We are here to save the day.

Come to find out Kenny Stabler was staying in a Condo near keeping an eye out for his house on Ono Island near Perdido Pass and when he saw we were sinking and my Alabama Crimson Tide flag was getting lower on the horizon he called for our rescue!

Thank you Snake for throwing us a hail-mary on a busted play!

I sure as hell needed that touchdown reception myself for God Sakes!

Orange Beach saved our lives because by this time some huge Makos with Auburn GPS transmitters with Auburn flags on the Antennas were circling the boat and ill be damned if I was gonna go down without a fight to some Auburn trained Mako Tiger Sharks!

The water was about to turn Crimson around that boat as I fought them Auburn Mako Tiger Sharks single handedly!!!!!!!!!!!

Orange Beach towed us back to the dock and I'm happy to this day they just happened by on patrol and I was able to wave em down.

They threw me a tow-line and pulled us in Perdido Pass to the ramp at the end of Marina Road.

I had yall going for a little bit didn't I but it wasn't all that scary after all.

I think that was my first trip out the pass with that boat and I sure wasn't going far and she never went out in the Gulf of Mexico again unless she is a reef out there now to my knowledge.

I sold her to a friend for God Sakes!

He never put her in the water to my knowledge!

I hope you enjoyed the short-story today even though most of it was just a damn lie yall!

I just couldn't come up with a true story that was all that exciting today!

Maybe Tomorrow!

Have a Great and Safe Easter Week-End and Please remember Jesus was murdered for each and every one of us miserable human beings!

I will be Open regular Hours both Friday and Saturday and please remember I will Open that door for you in an Emergency because I live right here on the Property!

Journal Entry 041614-A: Battleship Marine!

Friends,

First I would like to invite you to "visit" my little Marine Supply Store.

I started this little marine supply store with nothing and have slowly over a "two" plus year period built it into something I am very proud of thanks to my customers whom I consider friends!

Thank you very much for making it possible for me to be here and Open for the 3rd Boating Season.

It would not have been possible without you my friends!

I havent written a story in several days because I have been trying to think of one that I havent told.

I thought of one yesterday and it may have been told previously in a blog post written long ago but I will try again and do my best to get the details right for you and make it interesting.

My Dad had a Guy Lombardo fiberglass boat many years ago that had a covered bow.
My dad didnt like the covered bow.

Probably cause my mama would have to climb up on the bow to put out the anchor same reason I didnt like the Marathon Cuddy Cabin I used to own.

Ill tell the story of that boat another time.

My dad wanted a center console so I would imagine that he had the covered bow and the gunnel removed all as one piece by Mr. Stauter at the Original Location of Stauter Boats on Battleship Parkway!

Mr. Stauter if I'm not mistaken milled and installed a new rub rail made of mahogany on the boat to stiffen the sides and built and installed a mahogany center-console.

My dad if not mistaken did all the finish work in again if I'm not mistaken the old original two-story wood frame garage at he and my mothers home on Hollingers Island.

The finished product was a beautiful boat with a 40 horsepower Mercury mounted on the stern if Im not mistaken.

The fishing trip I remember most was to deer river or what we used to call the amunition dump in those days before the Navy built a Naval Base near that location in the 80's!

We were tied up to a channel marker when a squall blew in from the North-West!

I don't remember whether we were catching any fish or not but the storm I'll never forget!

It blew in so quick all we could do is hunker down under a blanket and try to keep the stinging rain from hitting our skin as the wind blew the boat around the beacon.

Lightening popping all around us as the rain came down like BB's!

She began to fill with water and since we didnt use bilge pumps in those days my dad took an old milk jug and starting bailing while my mom and I huddled under a blanket with a bucket of Wish-Bone Fried Chicken!

It rained and blew and my dad bailed!

I don't think anybody on board thought that storm would ever pass but when it did even the fried chicken but man was it tasty and what fun we had that day at the old ammunition dump!

My dad kept the boat afloat and we had some soggy fried chicken and not one of us had a life jacket on that day!

Who knows we might not have had one in the boat!

If the story sounds like Garth Brooks live from Las Vegas about his childhood growing up in the mid-west your probably right cause thats the way we did things in the very early 70's on Mobile Bay and Hollingers Island!

Garth's family drove a car with no seat-belts a hundred miles an hour with him asleep in the back window and beer cans under the seat but down here on the Gulf Coast we had our adventures on the water!

I'm just a poor uneducated untalented version of Garth Brooks!

I wonder how much Indian old Garth has in him! Oh Lord we maybe related?

The story is true my friends cause thats the way I was brought up- one adventure on Mobile Bay after another and eventually in the Gulf of Mexico!!!!!

I hope you enjoyed today's story of the Wooley's and the Wright's Boating Experiences!

I hope you have found a business, product, service or something you would like to have yourself on the advertising page. If your looking for something please let me place a wanted advertisement on that site for you.

Journal Entry 041214-B: Battleship Marine!

Friends,

First let me invite you to "visit" Battleship Marine in Fairhope, Alabama for "Discount" Pricing on all of your boat, boat trailer and marine engine parts and accessories!

Today's short-story is about the day I took a friend fishing and he wound up with an injury!

Well for Christ Sakes it was a beautiful day at Perdido Pass at least!

I guess he would laugh with me now about that day as hard as I am laughing now!

Shew!

Well I "have"  been out on a damn boat where no one was killed or injured for Christ Sakes!

Shew!!!!

I have even been out on a boat when the damn thing didn't break down!

I'm laughing so hard I'm breaking a sweat and about to cry!

Lord why do we remember the bad and not the good!

I'm just awful yall that had to hurt like hell and he's my friend for God Sakes but all my good post involve wine, women and song that were that were or was on the boat with me except a few times and I can't incriminate them cause I most likely still love all of the ladies even if they don't love me but hopefully my friends will understand that I'm trying like hell to stay out of Re-Hab, AA, and the Mental hospital for life so I can get back out on the water with a woman if you don't mind me saying so for Christ Sakes!

I'd be happy to get out there by myself if I could get to Florida! Another bad Joke for Christ Sakes!

Shew!!!

I've been threatening to run away to Florida or at least thought about it since I was a kid -day dreaming about an adventure!!!

Oh Lord!

Yall I really Love Alabama and I wanna live here and have a business here if I live long enough that is in the black and this one is NO! The damn thing is in the Red!

It's almost in the Black going into the 3rd boating season thank you lord.

Hell just stop and see me if you like the stories cause I'd love to have your business and friendship just don't go out on a boat with me!!!!!!!!

Roll Tide Roll Yall!

It was a beautiful summer day as we went out the pass at Perdido in my glass-tron!

It was me my ex-wife, Allison, Alex and my un-named friend well it was John Barkett!

Please forgive me John? I love you man.

The water was crystal clear as we eased around to the East side of the Jetties and anchored the boat.

We had live shrimp.

Blue Fish were runnin past the Live Shrimp in Schools minding their own business- having a great time!

You could see the beautiful blue fish but they didn't want no live shrimp.

A flats boat pulled up next to us with two men on board one at the helm and one on the bow with a fly rod!

They eased up and each time the fly hit the water a blue fish would nail the fly!

It was amazing but in the process poor John got a hook in his neck!

I didn't think we would ever get that thing out of his neck!

I think we finally just pulled it out barb and all!

We tried to cut it with a pair of Kline's I think but he was in serious pain.

My God why were we friends after that day and I'll never know why we still are but it was such a beautiful day!

Oh Shit! The Coast Guard just pulled up here at Battleship Marine to impound my Negus and confiscate my boating license!

John I love you man. I haven't seen you in a while but I hope your doing well my friend!

I do!

Journal Entry 041214-A: A Beautiful Red Fish!

Friends,
A Beautiful Redfish a friend caught this beautiful Saturday Morning off the Fairhope, Alabama Pier!
I'd Love to have more of your fish pictures!
I saw a sign on a Church this Morning that read "God is not Dead"!
Friends even prior to my accepting "Christ as my Savior" I already beleived in God and his Son Jesus Christ just by going fishing and seeing the beautiful creations that are upon this planet in The Gulf of Mexico!
Somehow someway that is beyond the human imagination what is stored in our mind will join God, Jesus his Angels that once walked this planet and a host of other's (please forgive me if your religion or denomination disagrees with what I'm about to write) on Heaven!

Thank you my friend for the beautiful Picture!

Journal Entry 041114-A: Battleship Marine!

Friends,

First let me invite to visit Battleship Marine located here in Fairhope, Alabama if you need absolutely anything for your Boat, Boat Trailer or Marine Engine!

Todays short story involves what may be a crime to some but pure fun to others!

One hot summer Sunday my ex-wife Valerie and I decided to hook up the boat at our home on Ridgewood Drive in Daphne, Alabama and launch at Scott's Landing for a little cruise down the Blakely River South into Mobile Bay to see if we could find some Dolphins or as some of call them "Porpoises" on the flats off Lake Forest.

Mobile Bay was slick as glass that day as we eased down the Bay.

I think it was August because there was no breeze and hot it can get in hell down Southern way!

Sure enough we found some porpoises swimming together as a family unit minding there own damn business!

Valerie had always wanted to swim with the Dolphins so she put on a life-jacket and I eased the boat up to the Dolphin family as close as I could then I cut the engine for Valerie to get overboard!

They would have nothing to do with us in our little glasstron.

They were very calm about the situation as they slowly moved away from us that too me was a surprise.

Time and again I tried to get close to them but time and again they slowly moved away.

Like I said  "the fact they moved away slowly from us was a big surprise"!

Most of the time they swim like hell from humans at least experience they have!

I think while I'm here writing I will tell another little short story.

After Valerie and were separated or divorced I took my 14' Jon Boat down to Marina Road in Orange Beach and launched off the beach and rowed west toward the Orange Beach "Tacky Jacks" location.

I wanted to do a little fishing and catch a few rays of sun.

I anchored just off the channel near Tacky Jacks and astern I saw in the distance one or more Dolphins swimming my way.

They boiled the water astern of me and all of sudden one or more of them must have slammed into the bottom of my Jon Boat almost knocking me out of the boat!

I laughed so hard because I thought "Thank God on Heaven and Jesus Christ his son somebody was having some real fun under my boat!"

I hope you liked the two little short-story's!

I hope you have found a business, product, service or something you would like to have yourself on the advertising page. If your looking for something please let me place a wanted advertisement on that site for you.
