The Jubilee at the Fairhope, Alabama Pier was simply beautiful this Morning my Friends so let me share a true story with you of a different time in the lives of those that remember!
First let me write.....
In Today's photo of me I am not afraid of anything but was in physical pain until I sat down to write this post for you and I do have psychological pain from being subjected to torture and the lack of medical care for my life-long diagnosed symptoms of ADHD but........
39 years ago Today my Hometown was waking up to the Devastation of Hurricane Frederic!
We would soon find out after President Jimmy Carter arrived at one of Mobile's Airports capable of handling Air Force One which I believe was Brookley Field at the Time near Dauphin Island Parkway that the Damage Totals in Dollars would exceed 1 Billion the 1st or 2nd United States of America Mainland Landfalling Hurricane to do so my Friend's!
The Curtains at the top the Tallest Building in Alabama at the time and home to what is a fine Restaurant today on the 34th Floor of what is now one the RSA Towers in Mobile but was then named the 1st National Bank of Mobile were visible fluttering in the wind as we traveled East on I-10 from Dauphin Island Parkway to my Family's businesses that were absolutely devastated on Battleship Parkway!
1 Exxon Convenience Store.
1 Exxon Self-Service Gasoline Station
1 Brand New Camp Park that had only filled to Capacity within the last few months prior to the Hurricane
1 Private Launching Ramp and the accompanying Docks.
The business that wasn't destroyed was my Father's NEW Construction Company "Southern Foundation Drilling Company Inc" that produced an Income during those tough times following Hurricane Frederic!
My school Palmer Pillans was damaged heavily at the time as was my Family's home on Hollinger's Island as was just just about everyone else's home and business!
My Grandparent's home on Dauphin Island Parkway off Dauphin Island Parkway one house past the corner of Robin Hood Drive and Archer Lane had Pine Straw standing straight up stuck into the shingle like missiles!
The Motel on Michigan Avenue where we stayed was damaged so Heavily the Fire Inspector wouldn't let us stay a second night.
My Dad had booked our room on the Leeward side next to a Breezeway.
A Courage Black man was on the opposite side or the windward side of the Motel holding a mattress over the blown out window to protect his family all night long!!!!
Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to meet him!
My Father did the next morning - I wish he had let me meet him but I am sure my Dad had other things on his mind besides me at the Time but we did check on the Mermaid at Dog River Marina where she would have capsized when the water went down because her chime was on the Dock.
We had to wade through water to get to her even stepping on a live power line but we saved the Mermaid a 1957 or so 38' Chris-Craft Constellation!
Our next stop was an almost sprint down Island Road to Bay Road and South to my Parent's house where my mother fell out in my arms when she saw the Damage to her Home that had just been remodeled!
Then it was on to the Causeway to see the four lost businesses!
I could go on but I will stop there and write this......
The New York Times Headline read prior to President Carters Visit was that the people of Mobile, Alabama were starving to death but this only angered the people of the Mobile Metropolitan Area and we worked harder to rebuild!
The people of Mobile, Alabama are a proud Southern group of People so don't ever say we are starving or we will work ourselves to Death!
One last thing about Hurricane Frederic!
The Wind Gauge on what was left of Dauphin Island Bridge broke at 145 MPH so don't let the records fool you she was a bad ass storm!
God Bless, Godspeed, Peace, Love, Knowledge and Safety to the people of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia as Hurricane Florence makes landfall Today or Tonight!

Serial Number Particularly on Mercury Engines!
Propeller's -if at all possible bring in your old wheel as it has a number stamped on it that will help considerably in getting you the right propeller.
I will most likely ask you a few questions regarding the performance of your boat if that is one of your concerns and I will consult the Propeller Manufacturer when Necessary.
